Just about two years ago, Tupur and
Tapur Chatterjee made waves in the modelling world. If their names
sounded similar, they look like carbon copies of each other, too.
Naturally – both were born on the 24th of April – and Tupur is 12
minutes older than her twin, Tapur.
It has been a blessing for Tupur to have a twin. "I can share my
deepest doubts with Tapur and we have an amazing bond, " she says
crossing her fingers. "But though we are physically similar, mentally
we are poles apart!"
Making It
How difficult was it for Tupur and
Tapur to get into the glamour industry? "Well, we got into it quite by
chance, but people in this line will chose a face because it is well
known or because they are known to each other. Why can’t newer faces
be given a break without having to run around?" asks Tapur.
Imprssive Portfolio
Between them, Tupur and Tapur have
done ads for Titan Raga watches, Lakme and Park Avenue amongst others
with a cover for Femina and numerous fashion features in various
magazines like Elle and Cosmopolitan.
Has this success gone to their
heads and made them feel extra special?
"Look, at the end of the day I just
want to be satisfied with whatever I do. We’ve had a very stable,
normal upbringing. We know we are like someone else. Just because
someone has given us so much importance it does not mean that we are
greater," says Tupur.
Tapur Vs Tupur?
Yet, could it be possible that one
is more wanted than the other? "A situation like that has never arisen
simply because half the time people don’t know which is Tapur and
which is Tupur," says the older twin.
Indeed when they began, being twins
caused them a fair share of problems too. "In the beginning when we
just began modelling, people tried to pit one against the other and it
did create problems between us.
But then we sat down together and
decided not to be carried away with whatever people say. It is just
not worth fighting over what some outsider has said," says Tupru
philosophically.
Fame & Money
But with all the fame and adulation,
modelling is just a hobby for the two sisters. Tapur, a product of
Sophia College is a commercial artist while Tupur (from St. Xavier’s),
is a genetics student.
In fact, even though they have been
offered a couple of Bollywood movies, acting in films is not high on
their list of priorities as of the moment. "We’ll be in this
profession as long as we’re enjoying it. The moment boredom sets in,
we’ll give it up," says Tupur.
And what is their favourite
pastime?
"Believe it or not, it’s sleeping as
we don’t get to indulge in that luxury much," they tell us. "In fact,
we don’t even know what a gym looks like and do not diet at all. Our
bodies are naturally well toned," adds Tapur.
